LPTW’s third Professional Seminar: Working with Disability will be the first in a series of prof development seminars offered by the LPTW to bring disability more intentionally into our conversation and practice as theatermakers. This introduction will be broad but rigorous, covering the nuts and bolts practical aspects of topics that include writing disabled characters, casting disabled actors, and identifying as disabled. Disability is the largest minority group in the nation and the least represented in entertainment. It is the most diverse minority group -- cutting across lines of age, ethnicity, gender, race, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status -- and the only one which anyone at any point in their life might become a member. It's part of our lives and if that's not reflected in our work and our working lives we are not reaching our potential as artist professionals. There will be reading in preparation for attending. This seminar is for theatre artists who consider themselves nondisabled, disabled and everything in between.

LPTW’s second Professional Seminar: How To Be The CEO Of Your Artistry was on Zoom on Monday February 6, 2023. Watch the recording here. 

We heard from theater professionals from different artistic disciplines on how they have successfully mastered being proactive through smart marketing decisions, branding, and knowing how to ask the right questions. Panelists offered personal insight into the more calculated approach to the business savvy side of theater.  Participants took away practical resources to learn how to be their own boss and level up by taking charge of their careers.  

This program was produced in association with Actors Connection and by LPTW League members Illana Stein, Alison Chace, and Annie Chadwick. The discussion was moderated by Illana Stein. The evening was stage managed by Jessica Dell Beni.

Our first Professional Seminar of the 2022-2023 season was Artist as Activist: The Power of Personal Story, led by Yvette Heyliger, on Saturday, December 3rd at 2 pm EST on Zoom.  The video recording of the Professional Seminar is available here until March 31, 2023.

Artist as Activist: The Power of Personal Story asked members to share their personal stories, centered on a particular social justice issue. It helps us to communicate who we are and what matters to us; what is at stake and the urgency or need to come together to take action.

This seminar was the first joint event between the League of Professional Theatre Women and Honor Roll!, an advocacy and action group for women+ playwrights over 40 and their women+ allies over 40.
